City of Orphans

City of Orphans was written by Avi.  Avi did a wonderful job showing what it was like back in the the 1890's.  During the 1890's kids were like orphans because they had to pay for themselves.  A main job for a kid was to be a newsie.  This book is about a newsie named Maks.  Maks sells a popular paper called the world.  But theres a gang that is slamming newsie like Maks, and the leaders name is Bruno.  Now Bruno is not slamming newsies for fun but for his life.  A man has a gun and a picture of Bruno and his boss is being talked bad of in the world,  so he is making Bruno and his gang beat up newsies so less papers are sold.

So Maks is being chased by the gang when he runs into a dark alley and the gang corners him, but out of nowhere a girl beats up the whole gang.  Maks right away offers to take her home where they find Maks' deathly sick sister and learn that his other sister has been arrested.  This book is a very good read and I recommend it to all.  Overall I gave this book a 9 out of 10.

Floors By: Patrick Carman

Floors was written by Patrick Carman.  Patrick Carman has written books in the past that I have followed, for example Skeleton Creek.  Patrick has one big imagination.  The book Floors is about a boy named Leo.  Leo is a very creative boy, and he loves to fix things.  When his mom died, his dad worked at the Whippet Hotel as a janitor.  Because the had no place to go, they just had to stay in the bellows of the Whippet Hotel.  Mr. Whippet who owns the hotel is Leo best friend.  But a year ago Mr. Whippet went missing, and now someones trying to steal the hotel and its expensive property in N.Y.C., so Leo has to find boxes to save the Whippet(and yes boxes is not typo).  Also he has to keep this a secret, but a snoopy little door man finds out.  So if you have read this book or are reading currently comment what you thought, because I gave this book a 8.5 out of 10.  And if you have not read this book... I recommend it highly.

March Time

March one of my most favorite months. This is because of all sports questions.  Like where will Peyton Manning go? And other roster trades and changes during an exciting N.F.L. off season.  More questions maybe who are the bubble teams that will dance in the madness.  My team Xavier was in this 'bubble team' spot for a while.  Honestly the only person you can listen to for good advice on bracketology is Joe Lunardi.  All the other people who study the brackets are dumb. Honestly this season ending tourneys are almost too big a deal.  But I like it because of the good match-ups, like today Ohio State plays Michigan State and Florida State play North Carolina.  But the best part of today is the Selections.  When the picks are made.  Who dances and who balls them selves to sleep. Joe Lunardi's Prediction Brackets, see this link for advice by Joe Lunardi.

The Green Hornet

The Green Hornet is a Movie directed by Michel Gondry. Staring Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, and Cameron Diaz. This Movie is rated PG-13. This movie was co-wrote by Seth Rogen and I think he gave he self to many words just to throw out there and to the point where they were not even used well. I think the movie would be a lot better without all of them.

The movie I thought was fairly good. I love the action and I always loved watching Kato build something, he was so smart. Kato was my favorite character by far because of what he became from a orphan to a kick butt fighter and a he's great friend. This movie had very good action. I love how many action sences there are because there's not too many that makes you sick of them. I'm going to give this movie a 3 3/4 out of 5 stars just because of the extra cursing by Seth Rogen.

Here's a link to the Trailer.

When You Reach Me

Front cover featuring a shoe, bread bag, winter jacket, library book, Miranda's school, a key, Miranda's apartment, two dollar bills and a mailbox; all important plot elements in the novel.

When You Reach Me is the 2010 Newbery Award Winner by Rebecca Stead, author of Umbrella Summer and The Thing About Georgie. This book is about a girl named Miranda and she lives in N.Y.C.,  she lives with her mom and is best friends with a boy named Sal. But one day this random kid comes up to Sal and punches him in the gut.

But the weirdist thing happens is that after the punch Sal stops talking to Miranda. So Miranda has to make new friends. But on a random day she gets a note, and it scares her. Now this note is just first...  This book does not have a word in it that does not matter, that means read it carefully because you WILL be amazed by this foreshadowing. This is a very strong book that I would like to be made into a movie ( Hopefully directed by Steven Spielberg ), and I liked it a lot.

A Tale Dark And Grimm

The last two days I've been reading this book. This book is all about the several tales of Hansel and Gretel. You may think there is only one, that is the cannibalistic baker women one, but no there are many more. This book is all the real Grimm story's about Hansel and Gretel.

This book has awesome bloody parts to cutting off your finger parts. And also very sad parts. Even if your not into gory things, I would still it least try a real fairy tale. A nice part of this book is that it is kind of short, and it will only take you a day or two.

This book's the author makes comments through out the book and they are pretty funny, like for example he will end the chapter and then started it again. Well I think this was by far the best fairy tale book I've ever read. And I recommend it to all.

Out Of My Mind

Out Of My Mind was read to me at school by my teacher Mrs. Terlecky. I loved it so much and it's one of her favorite's also. I'm so glad that she read this out aloud because it sends a very deep message, that every one the same and every one should be treaded nicely. This book has so many messages but it says those messages by the messages not happening.

Melody is a girl that has cerebral palsy(that a link to learn more about cerebral palsy).  Cerebral palsy makes you non-progressive. But it does not always make you stupid. Everybody thinks Melody is very stupid because of what she looks like, but she is not at all stupid. She is very smart. Many people support her and many don't. She almost has a third parent a friendly nieborgh Mrs. V.  Mrs. V takes her to the next level by making her crawl and making her pick up cards the she drops, that very hard for Melody.

For Melody to speak she use a board with words Mrs. V and her choose the words. She never has talked before and she will not ever be able too. Melody's board has just normal words like : Good 1,2,3,4,5,etc.  Love you etc. Then something so big happens and you just want to scream.

This is one of my favorite books all time, no doubt.

Here's Mrs. Terlecky's blog link. Check her blog out she share it with a man named Bill.
